Q & A Counselling
What areas can you assist couples and individuals with?
Relationship issues including working with parents. Various treatment approaches are offered including Gottman Method. Other are of interest include general mental health such as anxiety and stress, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem and trauma, addictions, work related problems, suicidal urges and general life challenges such as coping with retirement.

What practices do you use?
The counselling services are mainstream practices supported by research regarding what works in counselling. Specific, interventions include Strength-Based Approach (Identify your strengths and use these to address problems); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (helping change problem behaviours or thinking); Solution Focus (focus on your strengths, what has worked in the past for you rather just the problem); Mindfulness techniques (practices designed help you be more self-aware and deliberate in your choices) and Narrative Therapy (focus on internal narrative and how to find new ways of thinking about an issue to resolve our problem). These and any other approach will be discussed with you.

Do you see anybody and how long does counselling take?
Adults from a wide background including couples use the service. If your partner doesn't want to attend, counselling may still assist you. While child and adolescent counselling is not offered support can be provided to parents. Mature aged clients also seek support from grief and loss issues to adjusting to retirement. Counselling might be just a one-off or it may take several sessions when it comes to couple counselling or long-term issues. A evidenced based practice to track your improvement is used called the Outcomes Rating Scale and the Session Rating Scale to monitor your experience of counselling that has been shown to improve the effectiveness of counselling.

What are your qualifications and experience?
My qualifications are two master's degrees in counselling and a doctorate with research in counselling. I have over 5000 hours of supervised counselling practice and over ten years teaching counselling at university. My professional registration is with the peak counselling organisations the Psychotherapist and Counselling Federation of Australia (Clinical) and the Australian Counselling Association (Level 4).
